The painting is based on a photography I took during a flight. It shows a rural area outside of Berlin that reminded me of my place of origin in Hamburg. The landscape depicted refers to typical features of German suburbs and rural areas which are universally recognizable.
The landscape of the outskirts of Hamburg where I grew up, weaves together personal and historical layers. It references the nearby Neuengamme concentration camp as well as the area's status as a floodplain.
